Hiatus or not…

I’m not very good at just-plain-shutting-up. So when Latoya Peterson of Racialicious asked me to chat with her about an email that was making the rounds and spreading some horrible misinformation about Muslim women and Shariah, I couldn’t help myself.

We get our debunking on at Jezebelread up!

Shout-out!

Latoya Peterson of Racialicious writes an excellent missive for Slate’s Double X on feminism’s historical issues with race, and how they’re still tugging at the movement today:

Feminism framed the issues in a way that spoke to different women from all walks of life–then presented solutions that tended to favor women of a certain race and class.

She also gives me and MMW a nod for our hard work as Muslim feminists. Much love to Latoya!

Quoted!

I spoke with Wajahat Ali about Obama’s first 100 days in office and Iran in his recent article for the Emirate’s The National:

As Fatemeh Fakhraie, an Iranian-American editor of the popular website Muslimah Media Watch, told me: “Obama’s Norooz message last March was a bright spot in Iran-US relations. But decades of big talking – from both sides – leave many Iranians sceptical about whether the US really plans on changing its policies in Iran. If Obama wants to get anywhere with Iran, goodwill actions are worth more than goodwill words.”

My interview on Gender Blender radio

My first radio appearance (that doesn’t sound like the right word for it, but I’m blanking out on which word I should use) was tonight on Portland’s Gender Blender program. I spoke with Jacob Anderson-Minshall, one of the hosts of the program, about everything from sex change operations to everybody’s favorite topic: the veil. You can listen to it here:

My interview on Danish TV

My trip to Denmark was a bunch of firsts: first time in Denmark, first presentation at first conference, and first television interview. Here is said interview:

It’s with Jacob Rosenkrands from DR 2’s Deadline 22.30. He grills me on Islamic feminism, media representation, and other fun stuff.
